N.C. Music is happy to announce the release of the debut album of tenor saxophonist and composer Sergej Avanesov “Secret Language".

His debut album features John Escreet on piano and rhodes, Boris Kozlov on double bass, Samvel Sarkisyan on drums, and Sergej Avanesov on tenor and soprano saxophones.

Сomposing for this record, Sergej went back to his original love for the American song book and explore the boundaries  beyond those melodies and harmony. He drew inspiration from the contour of modern classical music as that is what he studied before jazz and is the catalyst of most of original compositions.

Each song has a story behind it and captures his personal experiences through the music. The song "A" is dedicated to his older brother who he has a lot of respect for. "Big Mike" was encouraged by the movie "The Blind Side” about the football star Michael Oher. "14" was written for Alina Engibaryan, one of his best friends and a jazz singer.

Growing up in Rostov-on-Don in Russia, Sergej Avanesov had a strong musical influence in John Coltrane, Joshua Redman, and Keith Jarrett. He attended the well-known Kim Nazaretov jazz music school in Russia and after the graduation moved to the Netherlands to study at the Prince Claus Conservatoire. Now he lives in New York and performs with different bands all over the world. He participated in many international jazz projects such as performances with John Clayton and Symphonic Jazz Orchestra and many others as well. For his previous recordings, he collaborated with EF Orchestra, Stage Band, Giacomo Caruso quartet and many others.
